The Leader of the Conservative Group on the City & County of Swansea Council, Cllr Lyndon Jones and Deputy Leader Cllr Myles Langstone recently used an opportunity to speak to the Prime Minister to promote the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project.
The Councillors set out a positive case to the Prime Minister about how the Lagoon can boost our local economy and stressed how important the project could be for the region. The Prime Minister's response was positive and she assured Cllrs Jones & Langstone that it is something she is working on.
Commenting on Conservative support for the project, Cllr Jones said, "The Conservative Group on Swansea Council has been very proactive in our support and promotion of the Tidal Lagoon. As a group, we recently wrote a fact-based letter setting out clear advantages to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, Greg Clark MP. In addition, a letter has also been sent to the Prime Minister which has been signed by Conservative MP's, AM's and Council Group Leaders from across Wales. We can see the huge potential behind the project and are doing everything we can to make it happen."
Cllr Langstone said, "The Tidal Lagoon can offer major economic benefit to our region, by setting up a hub for tidal power technology in Swansea which would create good long-term jobs for local people while also providing a boost to our tourism sector. Additionally, the Lagoon would help to provide greater energy security for the UK and also contribute to greater domestic production of green and renewable energy."
